Easy Black Pepper Beef Stir Fry
Ingredients
For the beef
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil (divided)
- 250 g beef flank, skirt cut, or tenderloin (thinly sliced against the grain)
- 1 tsp baking soda (optional, to tenderize the meat)
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp cornstarch
For the stir fry
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tsp ginger (minced)
- 1/2 each red and green bell pepper (sliced)
- 1/2 medium onion (sliced)
- 2 green onion (cut into 2-inch lengths)
For the sauce
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1/2 tbsp Shaoxing wine (or dry sherry)
- 1 tsp sugar
- 3/4 tsp black pepper (freshly ground, adjust to taste)
- 2 tbsp water
Steps
- Optional - to make your 250 g beef extra tender, add 1 tsp to your meat, mix to combine, and set aside for at least 15 minutes. Rinse under cold 2 tbsp water and pat dry before moving on to the marinade.

- Add 1 tsp soy sauce, 1 tsp sesame oil, and 1 tsp cornstarch to the beef, mix together, and set aside for 10 minutes. While the beef is marinating, mix all sauce ingredients in a small bowl.

- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Add the 250 g beef and cook until it is just browned on the outside. Transfer back into the bowl and set aside.

- Add the remaining 2 tbsp oil to the pan. Add 3 cloves garlic and 1 tsp ginger and cook until fragrant. Add ½ medium onion and ½ each bell pepper, and stir fry together for about 2 minutes.

- Add the 250 g beef and 1 tsp sauce and stir fry for 1-2 more minutes until the sauce is thickened and the beef is cooked through. Finish with 2 scallions, and remove from heat. Enjoy!
