Who these terms are with

Reduce is operated by Atlas Row LLC, a United States limited liability company, which is the data controller for the personal information described on this page. In these terms, that company is "we" and "us", and you are the person using Reduce. Using Reduce means you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use it.

What Reduce does

Reduce takes a recipe you point it at, reads it, and gives you back a version you can cook from: ingredients, steps, and the measurements repeated where you need them. It also keeps a cookbook of the recipes you save, and lets you publish a recipe as a link other people can open.

Reading a recipe is done automatically, and automatic reading gets things wrong. A quantity can be misread, a step can be dropped, a note in the original can be missed. Check the original page when it matters, and always check it for allergens, food safety and cooking temperatures. You are responsible for what you cook and eat.

Your account

You need an account to keep a cookbook, and you are responsible for what happens under it: keep your password to yourself, and tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else has it. You must be old enough to enter into a contract where you live, and at least 13.

Free use and Pro

Reduce is free to use with an allowance of three recipe conversions per calendar month. The allowance is counted against your account and against the browser you are using, so signing out is not a way to start the month again.

Pro removes that limit. It costs $4.99 per month or $39.99 per year, in US dollars, and both are the same subscription bought on a different rhythm. Prices are shown on the pricing section of the home page and are exclusive of any tax that has to be added at checkout.

• Billing. Stripe handles the payment. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, monthly or yearly, at the price then shown, until you cancel it.
• Cancelling. You can cancel at any time. The usual route is Stripe's customer portal, which you reach from inside the app; if it does not open, or does not offer cancelling, write to us and we will cancel for you. Either way the cancellation stands from the moment you ask. Cancelling stops the next renewal. It does not cut the period you have already paid for: Pro stays on until that period ends.
• Payment details. Card details go to Stripe and never reach us. The privacy policy says what we do hold.
• Failed payments. If a renewal fails, Stripe will retry it. If it keeps failing, the subscription lapses and the account returns to the free allowance.
• Price changes. We will tell subscribers before a price change takes effect, and it will never apply to a period already paid for.

If something has gone wrong with a charge, write to [email protected] and we will look at it.

Acceptable use

Please do not:

• convert pages you are not allowed to read, or use Reduce to get around a paywall or a login;
• work around the free allowance, whether by scripting conversions, by creating accounts in bulk, or by cycling browsers to mint fresh allowances;
• submit content that is unlawful, or that you have no right to submit;
• publish a share link for a recipe you have no right to republish;
• resell Reduce, or offer it as a service of your own;
• attack the service: probing it, overloading it, scraping it in bulk, or trying to reach anybody else's account or data.

Some of this is enforced automatically. Conversions run without signing in are limited per network per hour, so a request can be refused for a while even when you have done nothing wrong. Signing in is not subject to that limit.

Recipes and who owns what

Recipes come from other people's websites. Reduce reformats what a page already publishes about itself; it does not make us the author of it, and whatever copyright exists in a recipe's writing and photographs stays with whoever holds it. Convert recipes for your own cooking. If you publish one as a share link, that copy becomes readable by anyone with the link, and you are the one saying you have the right to publish it.

Notes you write are yours. Giving them to us to store does not make them ours, and we do not use them for anything except showing them back to you. The Reduce name, the design, and the software are ours, and these terms do not give you a licence to any of it beyond using the product.

Availability

We will try to keep Reduce running and will not promise that it always will be. Features may change or be withdrawn. If we discontinue Pro, we will tell subscribers before the change takes effect.

No warranty

Reduce is provided as it is and as it is available, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non infringement. We do not warrant that a converted recipe is accurate or complete, that the service will be uninterrupted or error free, or that any defect will be fixed. Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions, in which case they apply to you only as far as the law allows.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or the cost of ingredients or a meal that did not work. Our total liability to you for any claim relating to Reduce is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or twenty five US dollars, whichever is greater. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

Ending it

You can stop using Reduce whenever you like, and you can delete your account and all associated data at any time. See the support page for how. We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or attacks the service, and where the circumstances allow it we will tell you why first.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict of laws rules, and you and we submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Delaware for any dispute arising out of them. If a court decides any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest of them still apply. Nothing here takes away a right you have under the consumer law of the place you live that cannot be given up by agreement.

Changes to these terms

We will update this page when the terms change, and the date at the top is when the current wording took effect. Continuing to use Reduce after a change means you accept it. If a change materially affects a subscription you are already paying for, we will tell subscribers before it takes effect.
